What is Server War?

Server War is a bi-weekly event in Evony: The King’s Return that pits two servers against each other in a contest of strength, strategy, and coordination. It is one of two components of the broader Server vs. Server (SvS) event, alongside the Server Monarch Competition. While the Monarch Competition spans a full week with various stages (resource gathering, troop training, etc.), Server War is a focused 48-hour period, typically starting on Saturday at 12:00 AM UTC and ending on Sunday at 11:59 PM UTC. The goal is to outscore the opposing server by earning points through PvP combat, occupying key structures, killing monsters, and completing other objectives on the enemy server.

Event Requirements

Server Eligibility: Your server must be at least 60 days old and have crowned its first Server King.

Player Eligibility: You must be at least Keep Level 7 to teleport to the enemy server and participate actively.

Timing: Server War occurs every other week, with players notified via in-game mail three days prior.

Key Features

Hospital Boost: During Server War, your hospital capacity increases by 50%, and wounded troops beyond this capacity go to a "Revive" section, where they can be brought back using the Source of Life item.

Teleportation: You receive 4 free Server Teleport items at the event’s start to travel to the enemy server. Unused teleports carry over to the next event.

Scoring: Points are earned individually and contribute to your server’s total score. The server with the higher score wins, unlocking better rewards.

Preparation for Server War

Success in Server War requires preparation well before the event begins. Here’s how to get ready:

1. Build Your Strength

Troops: Train high-level troops (T11 or higher recommended) to maximize your combat power. Low-level troops (e.g., T1-T6) are less effective and easily killed, costing you points if defeated.

Generals: Equip strong PvP generals. For attacking, use generals with high attack stats. For defending, prioritize generals with defence and HP boosts. Ensure they have appropriate skill books and gear.

Subordinate Cities: Optimize your sub-cities for PvP. Russian sub-cities boost defence, while Japanese ones enhance attack. Check their buffs and assign suitable generals.

Research: Focus on the Medical Aid tree in your Academy to increase the effectiveness of Source of Life (via Light of Server War and Adv Light of Server War research). Also, prioritize military research for troop stats.

2. Stockpile Resources

Gems: Save gems to purchase Source of Life (1,000 gems each) or truce agreements if needed. You’ll need these to revive troops or protect your keep.

Speedups: Have training and healing speedups ready to recover quickly after battles.

Source of Life: Earn these from events like the weekly Vikings event or buy them in the shop. They’re critical for reviving troops without losing them permanently.

3. Coordinate with Your Alliance

Join an active alliance and communicate via alliance chat or external platforms (e.g., Discord). Many servers conduct a “purge” before Server War, attacking unbubbled keeps on their own server to deny the enemy easy points. Participate or bubble up to stay safe.

Plan roles: Some players attack, others defend temples, and some focus on occupying the enemy throne.

4. Practice PvP

Hone your skills in less punishing events like Battle of Gaugamela (BoG) or Battle of Constantinople (BoC). These help you learn troop compositions, scouting, and attack timing without the high stakes of Server War.

5. Gear Up

Equip monarch gear that boosts march size, attack, or defense (e.g., War Horn for march capacity). Swap to gathering or training gear when not fighting to maximize efficiency.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

How Server War Works

During the 48-hour event, your objective is to earn points for your server while minimizing losses that benefit the enemy. Here’s a breakdown of the mechanics:

Teleporting to the Enemy Server

Use a Server Teleport from your inventory to travel to a random spot on the enemy server. You get a 5-minute temporary bubble upon arrival, during which you’re immune to attacks.

Use Advanced Teleports to move to specific locations (e.g., near temples or enemy keeps) after the initial teleport. Save one teleport to return to your home server if needed.

If you run out of Server Teleports, you can use regular teleports via the enemy server map, though this consumes gems or teleport items.

Scoring Points

Points are earned through the following activities:

Killing Enemy Troops:

The primary source of points. Higher-tier troops (e.g., T14) yield more points when killed or wounded. Scout targets to ensure they’re worth attacking.

Occupying Temples:

Three temples (Harvest, Hunter, Forging) unlock at the event’s start on the enemy server. Occupy them with a march of at least 5 million power to start earning points (37 points/second per additional 1 million power, up to 2,000 points/second at 55 million power).

Hold a temple for 6+ hours to secure it permanently, granting buffs to your server and debuffs to the enemy if you win.

Occupying the Throne:

Opens 24 hours into the event. Requires a march of 9.5 million power minimum (100 points/second per additional 1 million power, up to 10,000 points/second). Occupy it for 5 consecutive hours to become the enemy server’s “Conqueror,” transferring 50% of their points to your server.

Killing Enemy Monsters:

Defeat bosses and regular monsters on the enemy server for points. This also denies the enemy resources and buffs.

Visiting Statues:

Fire Spirits (500 points, 3 visits max) and Ares Statues (100,000 points, 10 visits max) spawn on both servers. Visiting them on the enemy server earns more points.

Defending Your Server

Enemies will teleport to your server to attack keeps, occupy temples, and kill monsters. Keep your troops ghosted (sent on long marches) or bubbled with a truce agreement to avoid giving points.

Defend your temples to prevent enemy occupation. If an enemy holds a temple for 6+ hours and your server loses, you’ll face debuffs (e.g., reduced march speed).

Troop Management

Wounded Troops: Go to your hospital (50% extra capacity). Excess wounded troops move to the “Revive” section.

Reviving Troops: Use Source of Life to revive troops based on their power level. The first 100,000 power can be revived with resources; beyond that, it’s Source of Life only.

Dead Generals: If a general dies, revive them at your Shrine as usual.

Strategies for Success

Here’s how to maximize your impact during Server War:

Offensive Strategies

Target Selection:

Use the “Ranking of Enemy Server” in the Event Center to find active players (marked with a golden sword if on your server). Check “Alliance Power Ranking” and “View Members” to locate unbubbled keeps.

Scout targets first to assess troop strength. Avoid heavily defended keeps unless you’re confident in victory.

Mini Hives:

Coordinate with your alliance to teleport near each other on the enemy server, forming a “mini hive.” This protects weaker players and allows joint attacks or rallies.

Temple and Throne Occupation:

Send strong marches (5M+ power for temples, 9.5M+ for the throne) to hold these structures.

Reinforce with allies if attacked.

Monster Hunting:

Use your 5-minute bubble upon arrival to hit bosses or monsters. Bookmark their locations for quick returns.

Traps:

Set up a decoy keep (e.g., Keep Level 16-20 with high reinforcement capacity) filled with mid-tier troops (e.g., T10) to lure enemy attacks, then reinforce it to wipe them out.

Defensive Strategies

Stay Bubbled:

Apply a truce agreement on your home server at all times when not active. Enemies can’t attack bubbled keeps.

Ghost Troops:

Send all troops on 60-minute rallies (e.g., to a monster or tile) when not attacking. This ensures enemies hit an empty keep, losing points instead of gaining them.

Temple Defence:

Reinforce your server’s temples with strong marches to repel enemy occupations. Share coordinates of enemy occupiers in alliance chat for counterattacks.

Avoid Gathering:

Don’t gather resources outside alliance tiles during Server War. Enemies can attack gathering troops for easy points.

Team Coordination

Communication: Share enemy coordinates, temple statuses, and statue spawns in alliance chat (not world chat, to avoid enemy spies).

Purge: Participate in your server’s pre-event purge to eliminate unbubbled keeps, reducing enemy scoring opportunities.

Rallies: Join or lead rallies against big enemy targets for massive point gains.

Tips and Tricks

Scout Always: Send a scout before attacking to check troop numbers and general strength. Avoid wasting marches on empty or overpowered keeps.

Use Arrest Warrants: These reveal enemy locations on your server. Act fast, as enemies may bubble or flee.

Maximize Bubble Time: Teleport to the enemy server, hit targets during your 5-minute bubble, then return and bubble up immediately.

Statue Hunting: Prioritize Ares Statues (100,000 points) over Fire Spirits (500 points). Share coordinates with allies quickly.

Watch Your Marches: If attacked on the enemy server with marches out, you can’t teleport away. Ghost troops or recall them to minimize losses.

Healing Efficiency: Heal wounded troops during the event to keep fighting, but save Source of Life for critical revives.

Rewards

Individual Rewards: Based on your personal score (e.g., gems, speedups, resources). Top 10 monarchs get extra rewards.

Alliance Rewards: Earned if your alliance hits score thresholds.

Server Rewards: The winning server gets a full reward pool (shared among players with 300,000+ points), while the losing server gets half. Winning also spawns extra gem mines on your map.

Wings: Top 5 scorers (sometimes adjusted during special “Miracle Weekend” events) unlock Ares Wings, aiding Wonder progression.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Unbubbled Keeps: Forgetting to bubble gives enemies free points.

Overextending: Attacking without scouting or backup can zero your troops, costing resources and gems to recover.

Wasting Teleports: Don’t teleport aimlessly; plan your moves.

Ignoring Teamwork: Solo play limits your impact. Work with your alliance for bigger wins.

Conclusion

Server War is a high-stakes, rewarding event that tests your combat skills, strategy, and teamwork. Prepare by building a strong army, stockpiling resources, and coordinating with your alliance. During the event, focus on scoring points through PvP, temple/throne occupation, and monster kills while protecting your own server. With practice and planning, you can excel individually and help your server claim victory.
